Here are some tips and resources to keep in mind in case a flood interrupts your life: Stay out of floodwater Never use a wet electrical device If the power is out, use flashlights instead of candles Prevent carbon monoxide poisoning Be careful near damaged buildings Stay away from power lines Protect yourself from animals and pests Make sure you secure or protect any hazards in your home before the flood strikes. Be prepared to turn off electrical power when there is standing water, fallen power lines, or before you evacuate. Turn off gas and water supplies before you evacuate.
