You Don’t NEED A Therapist To Do EMDR And Get Well
Hello from Jeff at Virtual EMDR,First, let me be clear about something. Some of those who read these emails should work with a therapist. And second, therapists do amazing work. These are people who have actually dedicated their lives to helping others get past their problems and feel better. Absolutely incredible stuff. That being said, there’s a really good chance that you can work through your mental health symptoms on your own if you are struggling with a problem that can be treated with EMDR Eye Movement Therapy. This is a pretty controversial thing for me to say to you. And I will get blow back from some people in the therapy community…especially from some EMDR therapists who offer in-person sessions with the old "traditional" format. And that’s OK with me. Virtual EMDR has been attacked by the therapy establishment in the EMDR community since we first launched the company. And speaking personally, at this point I’ve become kind of numb to it. We are standing strong and trying to change the world by helping thousands of people who otherwise could never have access to EMDR due to the traditionally high price or other factors getting in the way.And I am so proud to say, that many EMDR therapists don’t attack us. Instead they love us, whether we are a threat to their business model or not. You’re not going to "freak out" if you do EMDR on your own. Let’s give this one some thought.If EMDR Eye Movement Therapy sessions were actually dangerous, don’t you think there would be at least SOME research to support this idea? (There’s not)And if they were truly dangerous, doesn’t it make sense that some government would step in and regulate it to keep people safe? (They have not and will not)Neither of these things have happened. The idea that EMDR sessions, whether in-person with a therapist, or self-administered through Virtual EMDR are somehow dangerous is total bunk, poppycock, and silliness. As best as I can tell personally, it is just something that some therapists say to get clients or to keep clients away from Virtual EMDR because we cost so much less.And again, that’s OK with me. I am unbelievably proud of all we have done. We have worked with more than 1500 military vets, police officers and first responders to help them with their PTSD. And we did it for free. And right now, we are doing charity work with front line healthcare workers around the world. Before And After Brain Scans Show The Power Of EMDR Therapy
Hello ,People ask me all the time if EMDR really works.I usually answer by having them sit and do a session of Virtual EMDR and then have them tell me their answer. Wow, I can’t believe how different I feel. That was amazing. Now, notice the two images on the right taken after EMDR Therapy.Notice how the affected area has decreased substantially to the point of almost being completely gone? This is how a brain should function. Relaxed. Not over-working.And this is what EMDR can do.Through using EMDR to change the brain, you can turn unhealthy and self-destructive thoughts into healthy and positive beliefs and behaviors that will better your life. This information about how EMDR can transform a person is supported by dozens of scientific studies.As one of the most researched psychotherapeutic treatments, EMDR has been studied among many groups of patients, including military veterans and victims of sexual assault. In some studies, more than 70% of subjects no longer demonstrated their symptoms after as few as three sessions of EMDR.In a study of depressed people, EMDR therapy was found to be more effective than Prozac for long-term treatment. The One Mental Health Test I Would Recommend You Take

It’s is eye-opening and can shed light on why you may be struggling as an adult.When parents are absent, neglectful, abusive, or fail to provide a safe, stable, and loving environment, children grow up to be adults with problems.The CDC (Centers for Disease Control)-Kaiser Permanent Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACE) Study is one of the largest investigations of childhood abuse and neglect and later-life health and well-being.The study has demonstrated a direct association between adverse childhood experiences (ACEs) and health and social problems as an adult. How To Stop Carrying The Heavy Weight Of The Past Everyday
Hi ,I wanted to share with you an extremely short, but life changing story that highlights a problem that literally 99% of the people in the world live with.The inability or rather unwillingness of the human mind to let go of the past is beautifully illustrated in this story of two Zen Monks, Tanzan and Ekido, who were walking along a country road that had become extremely muddy after heavy rains.As they neared a village, they came upon a young woman who was trying to cross the road, but the mud was so deep it would have ruined the silk kimono she was wearing.Tanzan at once picked her up and carried her to the other side. The monks walked on in silence. Five hours later, as they were approaching the lodging temple, Ekido couldn’t restrain himself any longer. "Why did you carry that girl across the road?" he asked. "We monks are not supposed to do things like that.""I put the girl down hours ago," said Tanzan. "Are you still carrying her?" Now imagine what life would be like for someone who lived like Ekido all the time, unable or unwilling to let go internally of situations, accumulating more and more "stuff" inside, and you get a sense of what life is like for the majority (99%) of people on our planet. What a heavy burden of past that people carry around in their minds.The past lives in you as memories, but memories in themselves are not a problem. In fact, it is only through memory that we learn from the past and from past mistakes. It is only when memories, that is thoughts about the past, take you over completely that they turn into a burden, turn problematic and become part of your sense of self. Your personality, which is conditioned by the past, then becomes your prison.This story (from Eckhart Tolle’s book called A New Earth which I can’t recommend strongly enough) begs the question- Are YOU holding on to the past?Are you still focused on things that ended years or even decades ago?When the past becomes so strong that it interferes with our happiness or removes our ability to function, then it becomes a real obstacle that need to be addressed.When I at my low point, before I threw myself into EMDR therapy, I was struggling with sex abuse in my past, childhood neglect, trauma flashbacks, emotional outbursts, and overwhelming feelings of loneliness.I felt like I was ruled by my past. My mind was always taking me back to the dark things that I survived through. And every time I started to get deep into the past, I would end up thinking the worst things about myself.The real secret for me was to get moving toward changing.I went to survivors’ group, I started to write out a mental health and wellness plan, and most importantly I started doing some EMDR therapy sessions. And it was doing these exact changes that ended up changing my life forever. Hi ,Honestly, I don’t really like reliving and retelling this part of my story, but it’s been my experience that so many people have this in common and sharing it with you really helps to show us all that we're not alone.I remember how often I would wake up in the middle of the night and feel totally overwhelmed when I realized how out-of-control my life was. My stomach would clench and I would feel a panic about the things that had happened the day before and I would be fearful of facing the coming day ahead. You need to stop doing these things!Your life is falling apart!Maybe get some help but you can’t keep living like this. You’re not going to live very long if you keep struggling like this! Doing EMDR Sessions At Home? Here’s The Most Important Thing To Do.
Hello.Occasionally, Virtual EMDR will get an email from someone demanding their money back. They will say that our product doesn’t work, or that they aren’t getting better. But here’s the thing……they only did one or maybe 2 sessions. They never even really made much of an effort to laser-target their personal issues or mental health problems and do enough work to really get long-term results.The real secret Is not to give up. Especially to not give up before you really tried.If you take your time and work hard at EMDR Therapy you'll get the results you want, if you don't you won’t. It's really that simple.I recently received an unhappy email from someone who signed up for the Virtual EMDR Eye Movement Therapy Program to work specifically on their depression and low self-esteem issues.In her email, she said that she wanted to cancel her subscription and that our program did not work for her. First I sent her a refund, then I emailed her back to find out some details. The #1 Thing Our Clients Tell Us You Should Do To Get Better
Starting to address your personal issues, trauma and PTSD, or mental health problems can feel 100% overwhelming. It certainly was for me.Where should I begin? Call a therapist?Find a support group? Try EMDR Eye Movement Therapy?I have a simple, direct, and helpful suggestion. Sit down and write out a Mental Health Action Plan. Why am I suggesting this to you? Because we surveyed over 1000 Virtual EMDR clients and they agree that using this approach was the one thing that helped them to breakthrough and figure out exactly what their next step is to be. Please ask yourself: What’s holding me back from getting well and living the best version of my life? If you’re struggling with depression, addictions, PTSD, low self-esteem or other unwanted mental-health problems, are you doing everything you could to get better? Honestly, are you doing much of anything?A Mental Health Action Plan is simply a list of what the problems are and what exactly can be done to move towards fixing them. This gives you a clear layout of the things you need to do to get better and also can serve to show you when you’re veering off course.Here is a partial list of things you may want to write about in your Mental Health Action Plan:• First, what’s the problem that you want to change?• What are your goals and how would you like things to be different?• What could you start doing to help yourself fix this problem?• What’s missing in your approach to addressing this?• Is there anyone that you need to contact to make this process move forward?• Are you taking care good of yourself?• Should you go to therapy? Or get on medication? Or start EMDR treatments?• And, what are you doing now that you should start to avoid?Here are some concrete examples:• If you’re struggling with addiction, are you going to 12 Step Meetings and counselling?• If you’re depressed, have you seen a doctor or started taking meds?• If you have trauma and PTSD symptoms are you in CBT (cognitive behavioral) therapy or attending support groups?• And if you can’t make it in person are you at least doing EMDR Therapy, CBT sessions, Skype 12 step meetings, or counselling online?To get this process started take out a piece of paper and ask yourself, what exactly is the problem? And what’s the one thing you should be doing differently?What’s missing for you to be 100% well and happy? What steps do you need to take to deal with your mental health or addiction issues and live a happy and fulling life? I Will Be Your Personal Mental Health And Wellness Guide
Greetings to you.Looking back, I wish I had someone to personally guide me through the maze of dealing with my emotional and mental health problems. But I didn’t, so I tried to fix it all myself. How I went from crushing anxiety, fear, PTSD, uncontrollable pain - into a "normal" (okay, better-than-normal) life filled with joy and experiences that I never dared hope for. I thought I would never get well. Much less, even dreamed that I could taste the cold air of Iceland or go white shark-diving in New Zealand or wander in the catacombs of Edinburgh. Even leaving the US was impossible, because for 12 years, I could not even step on a plane.But the about-change in my life did happen to me - and in a span of just a few short years. How EMDR Saved My Life - And Why It Works (Part 3 Of 5)
Hi , Yesterday, I shared with you my personal story of childhood trauma (in its raw unedited glory) that led to immense emotional suffering as an adult. ... How I struggled with years of PTSD, anxiety, stress, crushing pain, and an irrational fear of flying. ... How I hit rock bottom - until a chance encounter with a friend who told me about this "EMDR" therapy that had changed his life. ... How I was 100% skeptical but I was willing to do anything because I was in so much pain - and at that point, I had nothing to lose. Perhaps you can identify with this feeling of utter desperation. The Turning Point: EMDRMy first EMDR session literally changed my life in just minutes! Because EMDR therapy does not make you walk through and talk about every little detail of your past, I didn’t have to tell my therapist all my deepest darkest secrets. I didn't have to be held back by the shame of my past.And not having the psychological barrier of this shame (and self-blame, which anyone who has experienced childhood trauma knows well) really helped me move past my past.Instead, I could focus on the change that I wanted in my life RIGHT NOW. A small distinction, but one that was so powerful.I spent my EMDR sessions working directly on the tangible changes I wanted, which was to change the way my brain reacted to my triggers.Within just ONE session, I felt immensely different. I felt lighter, calmer, mentally clearer, unburdened. I was on fire (in a good way). And I felt HOPE - something I had not felt in years of therapy and medication.Excited by what I was experiencing, I talked to my friend. And he said that’s exactly how it worked for him. The layperson's explanation to "Why EMDR works"The simple way I explain why EMDR works faster and more effectively than traditional therapy is because it goes to the ROOT CAUSE of your pain.Unlike talk therapy or medication, which only numb the symptoms, EMDR attacks the source of your pain - which is your traumatic memory. The eye movement does something magical by re-wiring (or "re-processing") the connection in your brain between the memory and the emotions you feel. The memory doesn't go away, but the emotions that you feel change. EMDR helps you to eliminate the negative disempowering emotions (such as anger, fear, grief) and replace these with positive empowering emotions (such as power, confidence, gratitude).And this permanent neurological changes have been documented in scientific studies. Take a look at these MRI scans - which just blew me away when I first saw them: The red areas show the parts of the brain that are stimulated when the traumatic memory is triggered. The images on the left are before EMDR - showing hyper-activity in the areas associated with anxiety, stress, and concentration. Now, notice the images on the right which are taken after just a few EMDR sessions. Notice how the affected areas have now decreased to the point of being almost completely gone? The Gory Details In Full Color (Part 2 Of 5)
Hi , Yesterday, I promised to share with you my raw personal story of my mental health crisis, hitting rock bottom, and showing you exactly how EMDR Eye Movement therapy changed my life.Basically, how I went from having crushing anxiety, fear, and PTSD symptoms, along with terror of flying, into excellent mental health and even traveling the world.I grew up in a home being raised by emotionally unavailable, addicted, violent, boundary-less, and narcissistic parents.As a child, I felt alone all the time. Physical, emotional, and sexual violence just felt "normal" because I didn’t know anything else. It was really a worst-case scenario.When children are raised in violent environments, their brains are constantly on "alert" and consequently don’t develop correctly. By the way, you can find out if you have suffered childhood trauma that puts you at high risk of mental and physical health conditions by taking the FREE Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACE) test here I am taking a big risk here by talking about my past because I have family and friends who can read this. It’s a risk, but I want you to know the truth.... I remember a parent making me sit and watch as he threw my favorite toys into the fireplace to burn.... And I remember feeling a constant set of tension anticipating the next time an adults’ hands would be on me.This left me as an adult who was "disconnected" and who couldn’t trust other people. ... I struggled with friendships and intimate relationships.... I had constant flashbacks about my childhood with PTSD, anxiety, and depression, and I couldn’t stop smoking and binge eating. ... I remember driving in my car on the highway screaming as loud as I could while punching the steering wheel. I couldn’t stop thinking about my losses in the past.My PTSD and anxiety symptoms were so bad that I kept wanting to punch brick walls until my hand bones shattered and only bloody stumps remained.I had hit the wall completely.This is hard for me to admit now.I appeared calm and normal on the outside, but on the inside, I was exploding. My thoughts were always racing and I was constantly hyper-alert for trouble.I would often wake up in the middle of the night, my PTSD thoughts would switch on, and then I could not get back to sleep. Exhausting. On top of that, my beloved grandmother (who had been my one protector through my childhood) became seriously ill and I needed to fly back to see her, maybe for the last time. (I had avoided planes for more than 12 years)I was so overwhelmed that I knew I would do anything to make a change and feel better.This is when I had a friend (whom I had met in a trauma support group) tell me about this new strangely-named "Eye Movement Desensitization & Reprocessing (EMDR)" therapy and what it did for him.Needless to say, I was 100% skeptical but I was willing to do anything because I was in so much pain, fear, and confusion. I took a chance, made an appointment with a therapist, and the next thing I knew I was doing my first EMDR session.And that was the day that EVERYTHING changed for me. One small step that truly altered the course of my life story. My Story (Part 1 Of 5)
Hi , Welcome to the Virtual EMDR community! I’m Jeff Tejcek, founder of Virtual EMDR which is the largest online self-guided EMDR program - used by over 10,000 people since 2014.Mental health is still a taboo subject in many societies today, so it's not easy for me to tell you the truth about my own struggles and history of abuse. But in these emails, I am going to put my shame aside and share with you the path that led me to Virtual EMDR. I am doing this because it is my hope that you can find the same healing that I found.So here goes:Virtual EMDR started when my life and mental health was so deeply in crisis that my entire world was turned upside down. I had hit the wall. I didn’t know this at the time, but my struggles with PTSD, anxiety, fear, and depression turned out to be the opportunity of a lifetime to make real changes in my life and heal myself permanently. If you would have told me 5 years ago, that I would have a positive outlook, feel great about myself, and travel to more than 30 countries around the world, I would have said you were crazy.But that’s exactly what happened!I was also able to walk away from a fear of flying that was so bad that I hadn’t set foot on an airplane in more than 12 years. And even better, I was able to rid myself of the crippling fear and anxiety, depression, and low self-esteem I always felt due to trauma and PTSD stemming from a violent and abusive childhood. I’m not sharing this to brag. I’m sharing this to show you what’s possible when you use EMDR to work through your mental health, trauma, and emotional issues. And then take some new actions to get the life you’ve always wanted.
